I opened Hairhaus in March 2013 in the Collection building on 7th and Grand. In November of 2015 I moved the studio to the New Story Building where it remains today. As many small business owners do, I taught myself how to use Wix to build my website and over the years would continue to update the design and content.

In 2020, stuck at home, unable to work with clients in person, and searching for a way to become employable in a remote capacity, I began learning responsive web design. From there I moved on to a UX/UI design course (user experience / user interface) and then on to graphic design. Through these courses I learned about both the visible and 'invisible' elements of a good website --not just what I knew logically and intuitively, but the real impact of subtleties like the size of a button and the visual comfort zone of contrasting colors, and how to make design accessible.

In late spring of 2025 I launched a new business providing brand and web design services and, alongside it, a fully redesigned website for Hairhaus, complete with redesigned branding.

The Hairhaus redesign focused mainly on one central issue which was, "How can I make my business location easier to find?" Hairhaus is on the 6th floor of a large building in the Jewelry District of downtown Los Angeles. Many people are expecting a shop at street level and are further confused by misdirection from navigation apps. My solution was to integrate environmental cues into the branding and providing as much visual context as was reasonable. The 2D typographic logo was transformed into a 3D jewelry charm, the background of the home page is a photograph of the building's exterior, and rather than include a map with the location pinned, I've added a night shot photograph of the entrance to the building which provides visuals of both the exterior and interior.
